The Melbourne Senior Classic is played over 36 holes on two courses, Spring Valley Golf Club and Woodlands Golf Club.
Ken O'Brien from Rossdale has won this year's Melbourne Senior Classic with rounds of 74, 71 at Spring Valley & Woodlands respectively. Ken beat Greg Ebinger from Spring Valley (75,72) by 2 shots with a further 4 shots back to Michael Doutch from Woodlands (81,70). It was a very strong performance by Ken beating a strong field which included the 2 Bachli leaders, plus the current Victorian Senior Champion & overnight leader. Ken also had the low Nett score by 6 shots.
Ian Fraser from Huntingdale (73,70) won the Nett trophy by 2 shots over Michael Doutch (78, 67) who scorched home in round 2 on his home course for the round of the day 70. He got second on a countback over Ian McLeary from Kooringal (77,68).
There was a small Women's field with Carmelle Claney from Kingston Heath taking out the event with 62 points on a count-back, and Sue Wooster from The National taking out the scratch event with 56 points.
Conditions were wet and windy at Spring Valley with 2 breaks for lightening resulting in 6+hr rounds. Conditions were much better at Woodlands and the scores were reflective. Both courses were in great condition and great hospitality was shown by both clubs.
