John Owen from Barwon Heads won this year's Metropolitan Plate with a 75, one shot ahead of Mark Abeyaratne from Peninsula-Kingswood.

Rod Fraser from Monash NSW won the Nett event with a Nett 73 to win by one shot over Ian Ashton from Pambula Merimbula.

For quite a few years players have suffered very poor weather conditions for the Metropolitan Plate but this year the field of 70 players enjoyed the best conditions Melbourne can turn on at this time of year. Short sleeve shirts were the order of the day and the course was in its usual immaculate condition.

This was John Owen's first win in a Seniors event and he was very appreciative of the opportunity to play Metropolitan and its hospitality. Rod Fraser, now a regular visitor to interstate Seniors events was also most complimentary of Metropolitan and the organisation of Victorian Seniors events.
