DSC011991A good field of 83 men and a good womens field competed in another popular and well run event at Port Fairy. A little rain day one and a stronger wind day two made conditions difficult but the course was in excellent condition and the hospitality again terrific.

Gordon Claney (72,78) from Kingston Heath won the event by 1 stroke from Hilltop’s John Keller (76,75). Gordon opened with a terrific 72 especially given it was his first round at Port Fairy, and John finished strongly with an excellent 75 in tougher conditions day 2. Gordon finished a good year of a limited number of senior tournaments by winning the last 2 events.

The Nett event was won by Stephen Day (69,70) from Ballarat beating Woodlands Peter James (67, 74) by one shot.

Marilyn Takle (35,36) won the women’s stableford event by 4 shots over Peninsula’s Jenny Tilbrook on a countback over Judy Magill from Warragul.

seniorslogoSeniors Golf for Amateur Men in Australia is generally for 55+ year olds. The competitions termed Seniors are.comprised of a series of events in each State run by the relevant State Golf Associations plus a few events run by Golf Australia. There is a National Order Of Merit determined by results in the National Events and selected State Events. A number of States run their own Orders of Merit which are determined by results in their State Events. Each event is open to amateur golfers aged 55 and over at the time of the event; there are a variety of handicap restrictions dependent on the State, event and category of event.

Senior Women
NSW has a Women’s Senior Order of Merit and there are a small number of other events around Australia that specifically cater for Senior Women.

Veterans
There is also a strong network of Veteran Golf Associations that run many events all around Australia, for over 55+yo (male) golfers with a proper handicap. There is usually a low cost to join the local association and also very reasonable charges for each event.

Professionals
Professional golfers join their senior ranks at age 50. There is a circuit of ProAms for Seniors in Australia.

This site has been instigated by the Victorian Seniors Competition but is set up to support and promote Seniors Golf in Australia. It is an independent site, but although not sponsored by the Golf Victoria or the Victorian Seniors Advisory Committee, will hopefully have their full support. Some content and photos are courtesy of Golf Victoria.

The site is aimed at providing a focussed, timely and comprehensive coverage of the State based competitions. It is aimed to supplement the state based Golf Association sites that have so much more to focus on. It is to assist the State based events as Ausoom does for the National events. It is not aiming at covering the National Senior Order of Merit so well covered and supported by the Ausoom web site.

I welcome comments on the site especially constructive criticism or suggestions for improvement, feel free to email me or discuss in the forum.

Following an analysis of net scores returned in 2014 senior events; consultation with Golf Australia and consideration by the Senior Advisory Group, Golf Victoria has revised the conditions to apply for the 2015 Victorian Senior Order of Merit as follows: -

 •        In accordance with Section 17 of the GA Handicap System, the leading 30 players from the 2014 Paul Lulofs Trophy and any player within the leading 30 players of the 2015 Paul Lulofs Trophy as at March 31; June 30 and/or September 30 will be allocated a Special Competition GA Handicap.

Each player’s Special Competition GA Handicap will be calculated on the basis of scores returned in Doug Bachli events only, in accordance with the regular calculation provisions of the GA Handicap System and updated following each Victorian Senior Order of Merit event.

For each 2015 Victorian Senior Order of Merit event, players subject to this condition are required to play from the lower of either their Special Competition GA Handicap or their current GA Handicap with the exception that no player shall play from a Daily Handicap greater than 24 strokes.

The above conditions will come into effect as of the commencement of the 2015 Victorian Senior Golf Program at the Sorrento Senior Amateur.

Following the completion of the Port Fairy Senior Amateur on Friday 28 November, the GA Handicaps of the leading 30 players from the 2014 Paul Lulofs Trophy will be determined as outlined above and advised to any such player competing at the Sorrento Senior Amateur. This process will then be followed for the remainder of the 2015 Senior Program.

The Senior Advisory Group will monitor the condition amendments during the 2015 Senior Program and review the conditions prior to the commencement of the 2016 Senior Program. The Senuor Advisory Group has subsequently decided to repeat the use of the Special Competition Handicaps in the same manner for 2016.

For the 2017 season just the top 20 ranked players in the Lulofs at specific dates will be subject to the Special Competition Handicap.

Below is a list of players currently subject to the Special Competition Handicap, click the name to view handicap details.
