Kym Olsen from The National has won this years extended Gardiner Run Senior Amateur. Kym was equal leader after day 1 with a par 72 but streeted the field with a terrific 67 on day 2 to win the event by 7 shots from Malcolm Barnes from Neangar Park (75,71), John Kelly from Metropolitan (73,73) and Ken O'Brien from Rossdale (73,73).
The Nett event was taken out by Keith Finkelde from LaTrobe (70,65) by a similarly decisive 5 shots over Malcolm Barnes, John Kelly and Wayne Aigner from Sandhurst (68, 72).
The womens event was supported by 17 women. Sue Lush from Eastern won the women's event with 71 points and Heather Harley from Kooringal won the scratch event with 56 points.
This year was the first time the event was played over 36 holes, and it moved from its past winter timeslot. The change was much appreciated by the players who experienced wet conditions in past years. The weather was fine but warm day 1 and a little cooler and windier day 2. The scores turned out better day 2 with some exceptional scores - the course was in good condition and the conditions and hospitality much appreciated by the field.
