Kym Olsen from The National won the Shepparton Senior Amateur in his second seniors start after coming in 3rd in the previous Heathcote event. He had a pair of 73's to win by 3 shots over Paul Ansell from Metropolitan (76,73) on a countback from Rossdale's Ken O'Brien. Off a plus 3 handicap and with a recent career as a Senior Professional golfer he will be another Vic golfer to watch in both Victorian and National events.
Ken O'Brien won the Nett event (and Paul Ansell had the same Nett score) (Nett 70,73) by 1 shot over Bendigo's Stan Davis (73, 71).
There was a small field of women with Christine Mildren from Albury winning the stableford event and June Tickell from Trafalgar winning the scratch stableford event.
We were lucky with the weather. Day 1 all the wet weather gear was put on but we had little rain and day 2 we only had very light rain with the worst holding off until just after play was complete. The good field of 69 men enjoyed Shepparton's good hospitality and the course which was in excellent condition especially given the recent rains.
