Gordon Claney won this year's Cobram Barooga Senior Amateur with a very impressive 3 round performance that streeted the field. He was equal leader day 1 with local scratch marker Gary Hunt with a one under par 71, but day 2 he put in a fantastic round of 68 on the tough West course in testing windy conditions. This put Gordon 5 under the card and gave him an 11 shot lead. He was level par day 3 giving nobody any chance - and giving himself a 14 shot victory - an awesome performance. He also had the second best Nett score in a field of 96 players - a great performance off a plus 1 handicap. Ian Frost, who won the National Seniors Masters in the previous seniors event was runner up with creditable rounds of 73, 76, 76, 4 shots ahead of 3rd placegetter, local Gary Hunt. Both Gordon & Ian are quite familiar with the courses from their younger days. They have also taken a good lead in the Bachli rankings.

The Nett event was taken out by first time senior player Martin Farrelly from Bairnsdale playing very good golf off his 15 handicap (nett 69, 75, 66) to be 4 shots ahead of Gordon Claney and a further shot back to Nett runner up John Fanning from Hilltop (74, 72, 69).

The event was another great success no doubt in part due to the great promotion and hard work of local Ross Percy and pro Justin Speirani. The course was presented very well by the new course superintendent receiving many positive comments. The weather was particularly good and better than forecast although day 2 was quite windy. The event attracted a good field of 96 players but was also run in conjunction with a men's stableford event and women's events attracting an additional 150 players. The popular presentation dinner topped off a great week where the club gave out many more prizes than is normal for Seniors events.Cobram2016
