Bill Banks from Royal Canberra has won this year's Royal Melbourne Classic by 2 shots courtesy of a fine 75 on day 3 on the Composite course. His total 233 (81, 77, 75) was 2 shots ahead of Penrith's Sal Ballard (81, 79, 75) with early leader Michael Barltrop from Royal Auckland a further 2 shots back (75, 76, 86) 5th equal.

Greg Welsh from Colac (72, 76, 80) won the Nett event by 2 shots over Concord's Paul Maslen, and Denis Dale from Twin Creeks won the over 65 event (79, 81, 81). Bill Banks had the best Nett and best over 65 score as the overall winner was not eligible for these other 2 trophies.

The event in its second year was again a great success. With a capacity field of 108 and a handicap limit of 4.8 it is the most exclusive seniors event in Australia. The hard greens and surrounds ensured scoring was tough although weather conditions were good.BillBanksBillBanks
