The final event in this year’s Seniors Calendar was played at Sorrento in typical conditions for this year. Many players suggested the conditions on day one were as bad as they have played in – windy with intermittent rain and even a hail storm. One sub 80 score in round 1 on the par 70 layout was testament to the difficulty.  Manager of weather at The National, SAG Chairman Adrian Barr, took credit for organizing improved conditions on day 2.

Although the final event in this year’s calendar, Bachli points counted as the first event for next year. The event also incorporated the Victorian Club Teams event, and Thursday evening was the presentation night for this year’s Bachli trophy.

Gordon Claney from Kingston Heath (81,72) won his third consecutive event with a strong finishing 72 to beat newcomer John Neeson from Catalina (77,75) on countback. Wayne Aigner (74, 67) won the Nett event by 1 shot from Sorrento member John Fisher. The teams event was won by The National (Adrian Barr, John Wheeler & Tony Briers) 4 shots ahead of Commonwealth. The Nett event was won by Royal Melbourne (Andrew Buxton, Stephen Lilley & Peter Vial) by 2 shots over Woodlands Team C.

To counter all the hard luck stories of day one George Kotaridis had a good experience with the strong winds and fast greens. After replacing his marked ball and while going through his pre stroke routine pre address – he watched the ball roll into the hole! Nice birdie, thank you!
