20130326 133047The Mornington Senior Amateur was contested by 57 seniors. There were a number of new and relatively new senior players and some figured prominently in the results. The event was played in ideal weather conditions and both Flinders and Portsea’s course were in great condition.

Royal Melbourne’s Alan Evans led after round 1 at Flinders with a 71 by 1 shot from last year’s winner and Portsea member Wayne Berger by 1 shot. A further 2 shots back were Alan Bullas and Robert Burford.

Alan won the event with a second round 75 at Portsea by 1 shot from Thurgoona’s Greg O’Brien. Greg was playing his second Seniors event and his 72, best round of the day at Portsea, and 75 at Flinders beat consistent performers Alan Bullas and Robert Burford by 1 shot, both with a pair of 74s.

There were some good handicap performances. Ken Bruton from Glen Waverley had a great nett 64 at Flinders but faltered at Portsea. Overall winner and first timer from Creekside, Eddie Kloprogge had nett rounds of 70 and a very good 64 at Portsea to street Commonwealth’s Alan Bullas and Metropolitan’s Denis Long by 6 shots.

This year was the first year for the seniors women’s event which was won by Royal Melbourne’s Georgina Moore with 63 stableford points from Warragul’s Glenda Kelly with 63 points.
