This year’s Alpine Seniors Golf Championship was reduced to 18 holes after day one was cancelled due to rain. It rained all day and the course received 70ml of rain during day 1 and the previous evening. The rain cleared for day two which was played in good conditions and apart from uncharacteristic slow and soft greens the course was in great condition with no sign of casual water.

Chirnside Park’s Ray Walker and Commonwealth’s Charles Robertson were tied with 72’s one shot ahead of a further 3 players on 73 – Bill Banks, Michael Holloway and Michael Jackson. Ray Walker won a 2 hole playoff on the par 3 16th making a long 2 putt for par after leaving a makeable putt short on the first playoff hole (18th).

The Nett event was also close with 3 players tied on Nett 69 – Michael Holloway from National, winner on countback from Freddy Barton from Druin (runner up), Bill Black (Rutherglen) and Charles Robertson.

Special mention was made at the event in memory of recently passed Paul Lulofs, one of the founders of the Seniors Golf competition in Victoria and Australia, a true gentleman, and until his sickness a regular player in both Victorian and National events, and a member of the Seniors Advisory Group. Black ribbons were worn.

Another successful and very well run event at Bright Golf Club, just a shame we only got in one round of competition.DSC00911
